About BEA

BEA - the core facility for Bioinformatics and Expression Analysis is a core facility providing access to a broad repertoire of genomic technologies under the authority of the department of Biosciences and Nutrition at the Karolinska Institute (KI) in Huddinge. With more than 20 years of operation, BEA has extensive experience of implementing and maintaining genomic technologies as a core facility services. BEA services and competence are highly requested by researchers at KI and other Swedish universities.

BEA aims to be widely known and recognized as an infrastructure where scientists from diverse fields and with diverse backgrounds know they can turn for advice and assistance in genomic technologies. The goal for BEA is to provide high quality and internationally competitive infrastructure, services and education in genomic technologies including associated data analysis. The strategy of BEA is to provide a broad repertoire of genomic technologies to support research projects thereby contributing to the success of those projects.

BEA operates as a core facility offering services with a strict "fee-for-service" principle. The core facility is funded by central grants from KI covering salaries and the overall principle is that customer fees cover costs for reagents, premises and operating investments. All projects at the core facility are placed in our internal queue without exception and handled with first come, first served policy. At present the core facility is directed by Fredrik Fagerstrom Billai who serves both as operating manager and scientific director.
