MFT Data Transfer

MFT is a service that makes it possible to safely share and receive data. All employees at Karolinska Institutet have access to the MFT service. External users can be invited to receive and share data.

User within KI

When a folder is shared on MFT an email with an invitation is sent to the person sharing the data. When the invitation is accepted the shared folder will be available at mft.ki.se. When logging in to MFT, Username is your full email adress and Password your email password.

External user

An external user will receive an email invitation to Karolinska Institutet Cloud when the folder is shared. The user clicks on the "Register here" link to create a guest account. When the user is registered the folder is available at mft.ki.se after login.

MFT via SFTP

When the user needs to transfer a large number of files it's more convenient to use SFTP. SFTP clients like FileZilla (available in the Software Center and Self Service on migrated KI clients) and WinSCP can then be used.

For multi-factor authentication to work for SFTP, it must be set for approval via the Microsoft Authenticator application. You can find this setting under the security information page, click on “change” next to “default login method” and select “Microsoft Authenticator message”. It does not work if the authentication is set to “Authenticator app or hardware token code”.

See Logging into the MFT service via SFTP for details.

External users who wants to use SFTP need a key file for authentication. Please contact the person at BEA sharing the data.

SFTP via terminal
SFTP can also be used programatically to transfer data to a server or workstation. To download a folder named "BEA22P310":

sftp your.email.address@mft.ki.se
[enter password]
[accept login via authentication app]
mget -r BEA22P310
